What is clearly evident in the above tabled data is that one opportunity leads to another and
microcredit — and its repayment methods — are fundamental to tapping into the human
enterprising spirit of Nepalese people. There is clear evidence even in this small study that
accessing microcredit loans enables rural people to develop a momentum to move forward which
becomes evident in the growth actualised above.
“From an entrepreneurial perspective, innovation is the creation of a new product or service, or
a new method or combination.”
25
Even though this is a view sourced from the developed world I
believe the above examples represent such a view. The broader perspective captured by Carland
et al (2009) states that,
“Humans have an innate need to create and that drive is the real source
of the individual payoff for the work and effort involved in innovation.”
26
Therefore, microfinance as a strategy provides the opportunity for borrowers linked to HwH self-
employment activities to assist them, in improving their lives. Once those opportunities are made
possible and established I believe that Carland et al (2009)
‘innate need to create’
becomes
evident.
The motivating factors may differ between the developed and developing world but the capacity
of innovation by HwH and its entrepreneur’s bank on social change.
Kuratko & Hodgetts (1998) cited in Carland et al (2009, p.176) state that, “It is generally accepted
that entrepreneurs, “serve as agents of change; provide creative, innovative ideas for business
enterprises; and help businesses grow and become profitable.”
