buying land or
in an additional training (kneading carpets).
One big benefit out of the loan process for a lot of families is the bigger security they have
recently if an unforeseen occasion is happening. It`s possible because they have now savings or
possess animals they can sell if necessary.
As listed above, the women are running a lot of different kinds of businesses. The ones which are
the first with a new idea are the most successful (the first shops, selling of wine and meat,
telephone).
Also very successful are the families who are selling animals, vegetables or even other goods in
the market in the cities (goats (sometimes even sold in Kathmandu to reach a better price),
French beans, money pot, carpet kneading).
A lot of women invested in the 1
st
and 2
nd
phase in a shop, which seems to be a good business
for a lot of them, but some left this kind of business already, because it was not profitable. By
visiting the 3
rd
group I saw a lot of shops very near of each other trying to sell the +/- same
articles. But the purchasing power in this area is limited.
The purchasing power in the city area is much bigger. The animals or produced goods can be sold
there `easily` and it`s possible to earn money. I observed that the number of `producing`
businesses is very small. Nobody was making for example bamboo baskets or sewing table cloth
or `Dhaka topi`. A woman showed us a cushion made out of dry maize leaves, she just learnt how
to do. This could be also easily sold in the market and at tourist places. Same could ats out of
maize leaves.
The intensive work of Shila and Ramchandra lead to a very good relationship between the group
members and them. They are very welcome and very respected in every place.
The people seem to have a lot of hope and they are very proud about the business they do. The
people we visited are very happy. The 1
st
group of the cooperation side seemed to be also very
happy the day some of them received the 1
st
loan.
Considerations
The women are running there `businesses` very well. It is difficult to give some recommendation,
because the persons taking a loan have to do their actions full-hearted to achieve income to be
possible to pay the loan, and they have to feel themselves what fits them as `business` or `work`.
In my opinion, generally it`s possible to earn money and make business if
you can sell products in the bigger markets (e.g. animals, money pot)
you can generate as much added value as possible yourself (making best sold item yourself,
e.g. wine making, own meat selling)
Here some thoughts from my point of view:
